A Nikon by any other name? Not quite, but Kinon probably produced more camera models than Nikon ever did. Kinon made 110 format cameras. Nikon never did. And Kinon made lots of 35mm cameras as well. Most Kinon cameras were not as sophisticated as Nikon's cameras, of course, but some had advanced features, such as a built-in flash, and even auto-focusisng.
Some of their cameras are marked "Made in Japan", and some "Made in Taiwan",
but at least one is marked "Made in China" -- the Kinon X-380. It was
obviously made by Seagull and is a clone of the Seagull DF-300. So,
you could say, "A Kinon by any other name.....is a Seagull!". The X-380
is hard to find, and it's not known where the target market was, but they
have shown up in the Singapore area.
The Kinon X-380 had all of the basic DF-300 (model 2) features, such as auto and manual exposure, sensa-switch, and film window on the back.
