Huaxi is the decendant of the Mingca camera. It
kept most of the features, but some were changed or removed.
Huaxi S-80
The Huaxi S-80 was produced after the production of the Mingca stopped. For some reason they changed the name, probably because they made several changes to the camera. They chose "Huaxi" which means "Western", for their location. It seems it was designed in the late of 1980's and went to market in the early of 1990's. Sales were so lackluster, due to competition from domestic and imported cameras, that production was halted and very few Huaxi S-80 cameras were produced. The body has a new styling and had the following feature changes. First, the add-on flash shoe was dropped and a built-in hot shoe was added. The PC X-synch contact was moved from the end of the camera to the side of the lens mount. The interchangeable head was dropped -- which undoubtedly dropped the price, but apparently not enough.
There was also a Huaxi S-90 (below, left) which looks similar to the S-80 but it has a Pentax K mount. And there was a Huaxia DC (below, right) which is basically a copy of the Yashica FX-3 and sports a Contax/Yashica mount. Why the name change? Your guess is as good as mine.
